Next Luncheon Meeting - Wednesday, October 6th - 11:15 A.M.
Menu: Mixed Greens, Dressings, Meat Loaf, Baked Cod, Macaroni and Cheese, Vegetable Medley, Fried Okra, Pecan Pie
Program:
Our October program will be presented by Paul Culotta, New Romans Secretary, who is a member of Rome Little Theatre. Do you want to know how plays are chosen? Want the latest on the state of the Desoto Theatre after its recent fire? Would you like to have input on recognizing your favorite local performers? Interested in auditioning for a play? Paul and a few of his friends will answer all these questions and more, and also provide some exciting excerpts from stage, both on and off Broadway. Come and see!
Luncheon RSVP Information: This is a reminder to please RSVP for the October 6, 2010 luncheon by NO LATER than 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 3rd !! This is important for meeting the deadline for when I need to contact the Country Club with the expected luncheon head count. ========================================================Coin Drop at the November Meeting
Annual Coin Drop - We will be holding our annual coin drop this year to determine which charities we will be supporting with the proceeds of our December auction. Please bring any spare change or bills to the October meeting. A table will be set up with boxes representing each nominated charity (nominations were collected at the September meeting). Simply put your change into the box representing the charity that you would like to support. The 5 boxes with the highest amount of money in them will be the charities that will receive the proceeds from the auction. Each charity will also receive all money collected on its behalf during the coin drop

Welcome to the Board - Linda F has been elected as the new
Treasurer for the New Romans Club. Irene M had to resign
due to personal reasons. We all wish Linda great success in her new position.
Also, welcome to Jenine S as Assistant Treasurer. Thank-you both.


Clubs & Groups

If you have an idea for a Social Activity, contact our Social Chair, Sue Anderson. She’ll take your idea to the Board. If approved, she will assist you in getting the group or event going. Make the most of your New Romans membership. Start an activity you enjoy… you’ll make some delightful new friends!

Book Club -The book club will meet Oct. 20th at the Sarah Hightower Library in the Coosa room. There will be a guest speaker, Devy Bruch, who has written a book about her life and how it ties in with Georgia Tann, the woman from Memphis, TN who ran an illegal adoption service in the 1930's and 40's. The meeting starts at 2 P.M., and Linda would appreciate a call from anyone who may be attending as there may be limited seating. Please contact Linda by October 10th. The November book club meeting will be at the regular location, Panera Bread at 2 PM.

Bridge Marathon - started September 1st and is in full swing for this year. If you would like to be a sub this year or added to the list to play in the marathon next year, please let me know. Glynda K.

Bridge - 2nd Friday. For more information contact Connie P.

Bunko Evening Group - Is a fun, easy, (no prior knowledge necessary), dice game with a lot of opportunity for chatting and getting to know other New Romans. We now have an evening group that meets at 6:30 PM on the first Friday of the month. If interested in the evening group contact Kitty J.

Bunko Morning Group - Wednesday, October 20th at the home of Lainee and Rich C at 9:30 AM . Contact Bonnie M. Substitutes are always needed.

Bunko Noon Group - Monday October 18th at 11:45 at the home of Cory H. If you are unable to attend get a sub and notify Cory . Email Cory if you need directions.
We are in need of subs! If you would like to be a sub please contact Jenine S.

Dinner Club - This club meets on the third or fourth Friday of the month for a pleasant dinner with friends. Contact Kim G.

Games Night - 3rd Saturday, at 7 PM. Each month we'll meet at a different members home. October is a very busy month for Lainee. Therefore, we will not have a meeting this month. Interested contact Lainee C.

Golf Group - This is for Guys and Gals who are interested in getting to know other people while hitting a little white ball around a lawn and trying to get it into a hole. Interested people should contact Lee H.

Hiking Club - If you enjoy the outdoors, getting some exercise, and meeting people, be sure to sign up for this club. Hikes are scheduled as weather and time permits in and around the Rome Area. Notice of hikes are sent via email. Call Barbara M.

Knitting Group - For all of those who knit or crochet. Beginners are welcome. Please let me know what days and times would be best for you to meet. Linda S.

Mah Jongg - If you are interested in playing or learning to play Mah Jongg, contact Sheelah S.

Out to Lunch Bunch - Last Wednesday at 12 noon. Interested please contact Lainee C.

Photo Club - This club is for people who own a digital camera or plan to buy one. We also often cover computer issues related to editing, storing and displaying your pictures. The meetings are held at the home of Rich & Lainee C, usually on the third Thursday of the month, although this can vary. Rich will email the club members each month with the meeting information. For more information contact Rich.

Progressive Dinner - Thursday September 30th at 1:00 PM. Organizational Meeting on at Dairy Queen 879 Spider Webb Dr., Rome, GA 30161 (near CVS in East Rome and Turner McCall/Martin Luther King toward Hwy 53). Please bring your ideas and keep in mind those who live in the outskirts of the county. Contact Cory H for specifics.

Saturday October 2nd - Clock Tower Tour 12:00 noon. Meet at 11:45 AM
Join us to see Rome's most beloved landmark. Situated on one of Rome's Seven Hills. Appropriately named Clock Tower Hill, which is the official symbol of Rome, GA. The tower is located at the corner of East Fifth Avenue and East Second Street. Admission and Parking are FREE. Tour will be cancelled, if raining. Sign up at the September meeting. Contact Cory H.
Tuesday October 5th - NW Georgia Winds Free concert. "Earth Wind and Fire: Element-ary Music" Located at the Rome City Auditorium, 601 Broad St., Rome, GA 30161 706.236.4416. Be there by 7:00, Concert begins at 7:30. (Cory H).
Friday October 22nd - Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre meet at 7:30 pm at 333 ON BROAD (333 Broad Street, Rome, GA 30161) Cost $30.00 includes dinner, tea, coffee or water and dessert. Cash bar and gratuity not included. "Sam Club...and the Case of the Malted Falcon: Private eye Sam Club is in hot chocolate - er, hot water - when the priceless edible chocolate sculpture he's guarding is stolen while it's being transported by train to the Gallery of Amazing Great Art (GAGA) in New York City. Is the thief Velma Vavoomski, Sam's ditsy secretary? or Famous TV chef Rachael Raven? or Bird Activist Abigail Nightingale? or one of the other wacky characters? Help Sam and amateur sleuth Miss Marbles solve the crime. Call Kitty J.

Thursday December 2nd - Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre $30.00 + tip (Cory H)
Friday December 3rd New Romans CHARITY AUCTION at Coosa Country Club.
NOTE: This replaces our December luncheon. Please bring guests (friends, neighbors, clubs, relatives, and guests)!!
TIME: 8:30 AM FOR BREAKFAST -- AUCTION WILL LAST UNTIL NOON. The format will be much the same as last year with Lynn Dempsey as our favorite auctioneer conducting the Live Auction. This part of the auction features NEW items (no white elephants). Please donate something you would like to bid on and buy yourself.
The Silent Auction features some of smaller, but wonderful, items (ALSO NEW) as well as baked goods.
Gift Basket Raffle - If you would like to create a gift basket for this raffle, please let me know of your intentions. We had some fabulous baskets in the past and hope you will do that again. The committee will also make up additional gift baskets using the following themes: WINE & CHEESE; SPA BASKET; BAKERS/ KITCHEN BASKET.
We are asking for donations to make up these baskets so be on the lookout for great NEW items that could go in them.
PLEASE BRING YOUR DONATIONS TO THE NOVEMBER 3 MEETING!!
In order to make the auction a success, we are counting on each and every one of you to donate items for the auction. Remember the proceeds go to Rome and Floyd County charities, so please be as generous as you are able. If you have any questions, contact Glynda K.

Sunshine News

Our thoughts continue to be with Pat D on the loss of her husband Robert.
Sylvia E is undergoing treatments for Non Hodgkins Lymphoma of the face.
Any assistance that we can provide to her in the way of casseroles, etc.
especially during the treatments would be greatly appreciated.

When you receive your nametag at each meeting, be sure to enter your name for the door prize drawing. We ask if each member would bring a wrapped present to ONE meeting a year. We suggest you bring it in the month of your birthday so we can be sure there are prizes at each meeting, but they can be brought any month.
There is no set price and they are presented anonymously, unless it was a donation from a business or organization.
